Document Spaces

This is a great tool, nice work.

I’m currently looking for a tool (or less optimally tools) to manage some team work across multiple places & types of work. One of those is customer support, the other is admin. For both of these we have documents describing how to deal with stuff (SOPs). Currently these are in Notion.

I want to avoid “Pieces of work are scattered everywhere.” if possible.

One of the frustrating things about docs anywhere is they get out of date & then you need a process to tell someone to update it (=a task).

We could manage this in Flat.app of course, but then, looking at what Flat offers on topics (simple editor, assigning things, blockers, notes, collab editing) I thought — what if the topic was the document?

The document would move between the states “backlog”, “todo”, “in progress”, “done”. If a document needed some changes you’d move it back to todo & assign someone, add some notes in a thread (perhaps tagged inline) with feedback, or issues. The user would edit it, once it was ready it’d go back to “done”. So people visiting the doc would get a clear visibility of the state of the doc.

I guess this area would need a slightly different UI (hence “Document Space” vs. “Workspace”) since you’d want the document to be taking the full height, maybe have some hierarchy, collections (tags?) for example.

Anyway, just a thought

Hi Martin! We’re delighted to hear you like what we’ve built.

Thank you for sharing this idea; it’s an intriguing possibility we hadn’t considered. Some teams are using Flat topics for SOPs/runbooks in dedicated workspaces, but you’re right, a dedicated UI could make this a much nicer experience.
